This report is based on information collected from our online LPG in Nigeria community on Facebook and Twitter. According to our research, there appears to be a significant rise in LPG prices in Southeast states, with those states experiencing record high prices for 12.5kg cooking gas refills in February 2023. Twenty people responded online to our query about how much they paid for 12.5kg LPG in their area, which helped us compile the data below.

According to the statistics presented above, Nigerians in Lagos, Anambra, Cross River, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, and Port Harcourt paid more than ₦10,000 for 12.5kg of cooking gas in February 2023. A comparison of LPG purchase rates in Lagos for January and February revealed a 3.666% increase, while Port Harcourt saw a 5.26% increase. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 12.5kg refill costs increased by 37.67% between February 2022 at ₦7,447.79 and February 2023 at ₦10,253.39.

According to the report, some other places had low prices. Apata-Ibadan had an average of ₦8,750, Ijebu and Akure had ₦8,875, and Akure and Shagamu had ₦9,000. In January we calculated the average 12.5 kg refill to be ₦10,036 while the average for February is ₦9,840. As a result, the percentage shift between January and February average prices is 1.95% lower.
