Chevron And Nigeria's Federal Government Strengthen Commitment To Boost Domestic Gas Supply

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) in its efforts to enhance domestic gas supplies. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized this during a recent meeting with CNL's managing director, Jim Swartz, and his team.

The meeting, initiated by Minister Ekpo, aimed to get an update on Chevron’s initiatives to domesticate Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) produced at its Escravos facility and its efforts to increase natural gas delivery within Nigeria and the West African subregion. Louis Ibah, the minister's spokesman, highlighted the importance of these efforts in a recent release.

Minister Ekpo has mandated the domestication of all LPG produced in Nigeria to stabilize its price in the domestic market. He stressed that International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria should not only focus on gas exports but also actively contribute to the Federal Government’s goal of making the country's substantial gas resources benefit its citizens through increased domestic gas supply.

During the meeting, Minister Ekpo commended Chevron for its dedication to the domestic gas market and its role as a responsible corporate citizen. He assured the company of the government’s continued support in achieving its gas projects in Nigeria.

Jim Swartz reaffirmed Chevron's commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s aspirations by producing affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy. He cited the recent execution of the Project Panther funding agreement with JV Partner NNPC Ltd. and other initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of natural gas and LPG as evidence of Chevron’s dedication to this cause.
