To illuminate the fluctuations in Cooking Gas prices across various regions of Nigeria, we present a comprehensive report on Cooking Gas prices for April 2024. This report meticulously outlines the prices of Cooking Gas in numerous cities across the country, encompassing both the rates for the 12.5kg cylinder and per kilogram. Furthermore, it provides a comparative analysis with prices from February. Our insights are derived from data collected from 17 respondents, primarily sourced from responses on Facebook and X platform.

Price Observations:

The survey conducted in April 2024 across various cities in Nigeria reveals significant variations in the retail prices of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas. The prices for a standard 12.5 kg cylinder along with the cost per kg are as follows:


Highest Prices:

Jos: ₦18,750 (₦1,500 per kg)

Jos: ₦17,500 (₦1,400 per kg)

Jos: ₦16,250 (₦1,300 per kg)


Intermediate Prices:

Maiduguri: ₦15,500 (₦1,240 per kg)

Ojo, Lagos State: ₦15,625 (₦1,250 per kg)

Enugu: ₦15,000 (₦1,200 per kg)

Niger: ₦14,425 (₦1,154 per kg)

Akure, Ondo: ₦14,750 (₦1,180 per kg)

Zaria: ₦15,000 (₦1,200 per kg)

Nassarawa: ₦15,000 (₦1,200 per kg)

Ibadan: ₦15,000 (₦1,200 per kg)

Agege, Lagos: ₦14,375 (₦1,150 per kg)


Lowest Prices:

Ijede, Ikorodu: ₦10,000 (₦800 per kg)

Agbowa: ₦12,500 (₦1,000 per kg)

Sabo, Ikorodu: ₦15,000 (₦1,200 per kg)

Agbara, Ogun: ₦13,125 (₦1,050 per kg)

Badagry: ₦13,750 (₦1,100 per kg)


We can observe that in March 2024, the average price for retail cooking gas in Nigeria stood at ₦16,043, while in April 2024 it was calculated at ₦14,797. Hence, the month-on-month percentage decrease in the average price of retail cooking gas is approximately 7.76%. Take note, that we published a report on the effect of the depot price trend and USD exchange rate trend which we see has affected the price of cooking gas for the month. 


Other Core Observations:

The recent surge in cooking gas prices has undoubtedly impacted consumption and sales, turning what was once an affordable and sustainable fuel into a costly commodity. LPG prices in Nigeria have mirrored this trend, with fluctuations observed since January. These price fluctuations have been influenced by various factors, which have been thoroughly analyzed in our previous blog posts.
