February 2025 Cooking Gas Prices Drop By 4.8% In Nigeria.

The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, continued to fluctuate across Nigeria in February 2025, reflecting ongoing market dynamics influenced by supply chain disruptions, inflation, and regional demand variations. Below is a breakdown of LPG prices per kilogram (kg) and 12.5kg cylinder across different states as provided by respondents on WhatsApp, Twitter (X), Facebook and LinkedIn.

LPG Prices Across Nigerian States (February 2025)

The cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Nigeria continues to fluctuate based on regional demand, supply chain efficiency, and transportation costs. In February 2025, LPG prices varied significantly across different states, with Abia State recording the highest price and several states, including Abuja and Ogun, enjoying the lowest rates.

Cities with the Highest LPG Prices

Abia State – ₦1,450 per kg (₦18,125 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Kogi State – ₦1,400 per kg (₦17,500 per 12.5kg cylinder)

These states experienced the highest LPG prices in February, largely due to:

✅ High transportation costs – Many suppliers face logistical challenges in getting LPG to these locations.

✅ Limited local supply – Fewer LPG storage and distribution centers mean that consumers rely on more expensive imports.

✅ Market demand and supply chain inefficiencies – High demand combined with inadequate infrastructure has pushed prices up.

Cities with the Lowest LPG Prices

Abuja (FCT) – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Ijebu Ife, Ogun State – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Shagamu, Ogun State – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Badagry, Lagos State – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Bauchi State – ₦1,200 per kg (₦15,000 per 12.5kg cylinder)

These locations recorded the most affordable LPG prices, mainly due to:

✅ Better access to supply – Many of these states are near major LPG hubs or ports, reducing transportation costs.

✅ Government intervention and market competition – Abuja, being the capital, benefits from federal oversight and competitive pricing among suppliers.

Cities with Intermediate LPG Prices

Gombe State – ₦1,300 per kg (₦16,250 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Zamfara State – ₦1,300 per kg (₦16,250 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Onitsha, Anambra State – ₦1,300 per kg (₦16,250 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Kwara State – ₦1,300 per kg (₦16,250 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Lagos Island – ₦1,300 per kg (₦16,250 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Ijede, Lagos State – ₦1,350 per kg (₦16,875 per 12.5kg cylinder)

Ekiti State – ₦1,350 per kg (₦16,875 per 12.5kg cylinder)

These states fall in the middle of the price range, influenced by:

✅ Moderate supply challenges – Not as severe as high-cost states but not as efficient as low-cost areas.

✅ Geographical and economic factors – States like Onitsha and Lagos Island have high commercial activities, which can keep prices fluctuating.

LPG prices across Nigeria vary due to location, accessibility, and supply chain efficiency. While Abia and Kogi recorded the highest prices, Abuja and Ogun State enjoyed the lowest rates. With ongoing energy reforms and supply chain improvements, LPG prices may stabilize in the coming months, but transportation and storage infrastructure remain key to ensuring affordability for all Nigerians.

LPG Price Trends: Increase or Reduction from January?

The average price for LPG in February 2025 is ₦15,950 per 12.5kg cylinder.

In January 2025, the average LPG price was ₦16,762.50 per 12.5kg, meaning prices have decreased by ₦812.50 on average across the country. This represents a 4.8% reduction in LPG prices from January to February 2025.

What to Expect in March 2025?

If supply remains stable and transportation bottlenecks ease, LPG prices may continue to decline or stabilize in March 2025.

However, global gas price fluctuations, local inflation, and transportation challenges will continue to influence prices.

Consumers in regions like Abia and Kogi should expect higher-than-average costs, while those in Ogun, Lagos, and Abuja may enjoy more stable prices.

The 4.8% reduction in February LPG prices is a positive sign for consumers, but long-term price stability will depend on government policies, energy infrastructure improvements, and private sector investment in the LPG market.
