For the past three weeks, and as of the 18th of September, 2024, LPG trucks have been stationed at Dangote refinery, waiting to load gas while customers who purchased LPG from a registered dealer are left wondering when operations will resume. The delay is causing ripples in the market, leaving consumers and industry insiders alike with burning questions.
So, what exactly is the issue? The root cause remains unclear. However, the timing coincides with the recent commencement of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) loading at the refinery. While one could argue that PMS loading just started last Sunday, there’s speculation that operational challenges across different petroleum products may be overlapping, leading to delays for LPG.
This brings up several pressing questions: Does Dangote have sufficient LPG stock? Are there operational hiccups affecting the loading process? When will the backlog clear, and trucks resume loading? These are questions on everyone's mind, but no clear answers have emerged yet.
Our sources at the scene are also uncertain about the next steps. For now, the best course of action appears to be patience. Everyone is waiting for clarity and resumption of normal operations. Until then, the industry remains in a state of watchful waiting.
