NLNG Announces 67% Completion Of $4.3 Billion Train-7 Project, Employing Over 9,000 Nigerians

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) recently confirmed that its $4.3 billion Train-7 project has reached 67% completion and has created jobs for over 9,000 Nigerians. This significant milestone in plant expansion aims to increase NLNG's production capacity from 22 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa.

The project has achieved over 45 million man-hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI), highlighting its commitment to safety and efficiency. NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, Andy Odeh, emphasized the economic benefits this expansion will bring to Nigerians.

Located on Bonny Island in Rivers State, the project was awarded to the SCD consortium, which includes international Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms Saipem, Chyodda, and Daewoo, with Saipem leading the consortium.

NLNG provided updates and addressed queries during a reconvened session of the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Gas. The company highlighted the project's success in creating direct and indirect jobs, contributing to local businesses, and supporting the federal government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative. This initiative is crucial for diversifying Nigeria’s revenue sources and supporting the country’s transition to a net-zero future.

With Nigeria’s vast gas reserves estimated at over 200 Trillion Cubic Feet (tcf), the Train-7 project is a strategic effort to monetize these resources, inspiring other gas development projects aimed at enhancing gas monetization and utilization in the country.

NLNG reaffirmed its commitment to working with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape. It called for continued support from the federal government and all Nigerians to ensure the successful completion of the Train-7 project and attract more transformational projects to the country. The joint National Assembly panel has urged NLNG to ensure the project is completed on schedule, underscoring its importance to Nigeria’s energy future.
