Here’s the analysis of last week’s LPG and Crude oil price movements;

LPG and Crude Oil Market Analysis (Feb 24–28, 2025)

Last week’s propane prices averaged $485.9 per metric ton, a 3.2% increase from the previous week's 470.9 USD/MT. In contrast, Butane prices averaged $463.0 per metric ton, showing a 3.4% decline from 479.5 USD/MT the week prior.

Key Observations:

Propane surged through the week, peaking at $504.6/MT on February 27 before slightly retreating. This suggests a tightening of supply or increased demand in specific markets.

Butane prices trended downward, reflecting softer demand, possibly due to seasonal shifts in consumption patterns.

The divergence between propane and butane highlights varying market fundamentals, with propane gaining strength while butane remains under pressure.

Crude Oil Price Movements

WTI closed at $69.36, down from $71.23 the previous week, while Brent settled at $73.08, declining from $75.31 the prior week.

This downward trend in crude oil was driven by:

Weaker demand signals, particularly from China, as economic indicators suggest slower industrial activity, Geopolitical tensions easing, leading to reduced risk premiums in oil markets and Investor sentiment, as concerns over global economic growth and interest rate policies have tempered bullish momentum in crude oil.

Market Outlook

Propane may remain volatile, while butane could stabilize or rebound if demand picks up, while Crude Oil prices may remain under pressure unless supply constraints or unexpected geopolitical developments emerge.

Nigeria LPG depot prices continue to find new lower levels.

LPG depots in Apapa sold lower compared to last week, with some depots selling for a low as 16.8 Million per 20MT in Apapa. LPG prices at Dangote Refinery, remain steady; selling for between 16.5 to 17 million naira per 20MT. Stockgap Depot, in Port harcourt sold lower, selling at 17.6 Million , during the week. The Naira gained more ground against the USD ; at about 1495 USD by weekend, but it still doesn't make import viable, relative to the prevailing local LPG prices.

LPG Retail Prices find new low.

Retail LPG prices dropped to as low as N14000/12.5kg in Lekki, we expect other locations to reduce prices nationwide.
