Windek Energy's Groundbreaking Cooking Gas Depot Project In Akwa Ibom State

In a transformative move towards clean energy utilization, Windek Energy Limited held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for a monumental 20,000 metric tonnes Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Depot Project in Akwa Ibom State. Situated at Atabrikang Aquaha, Ibeno Local Government Area, within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone, this project marks a significant step in the quest to promote cleaner energy practices across Nigeria.

The Managing Director of Windek Energy Limited, Mrs. Nosa Igiehon Okunbo, emphasized the project's broader mission to combat the alarming rates of deaths caused by the use of dirty cooking fuels. She expressed deep concern over the preventable tragedies resulting from such practices and affirmed the company's dedication to minimizing, if not eradicating, such fatalities in the country.

Mrs. Okunbo's sentiments were echoed by Mr. Emmanuel Uwandu, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gas 360, who highlighted the staggering statistics of women's deaths attributable to the use of firewood and charcoal. Drawing a stark parallel between cooking with traditional fuels and smoking cigarettes, Uwandu underscored the urgent need for a paradigm shift towards cleaner cooking alternatives.

Moreover, Uwandu emphasized the disparity in funding allocations, lamenting the insufficient attention given to combating the lethal consequences of cooking with dirty fuels compared to diseases like malaria and HIV/AIDS. He urged Nigerian governments to prioritize clean cooking initiatives and seize global opportunities to transition communities from reliance on dirty fuels to embracing clean cooking technologies.

The Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo, commended Windek Energy for its visionary commitment to the project, recognizing its pivotal role in advancing Nigeria's energy security and economic prosperity. Ekpo emphasized the strategic significance of investments in the gas sector for driving industrialization, job creation, and improving livelihoods. Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, represented by Deputy Governor Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, expressed gratitude to Windek Limited for choosing the state as the site for this groundbreaking project. He emphasized that beyond enhancing energy capacity, the establishment of the LPG Depot symbolizes the state's trajectory towards growth and progress, not only in energy infrastructure but also in the broader economic landscape of Nigeria.

Windek Energy's LPG Depot Project in Nigeria carries significant implications across various domains. Firstly, it holds immense potential for improving public health by transitioning to LPG, thereby reducing indoor air pollution, saving lives, and alleviating strain on healthcare systems. Secondly, the project contributes to economic growth by injecting investment into the gas sector, fostering job creation, and driving industrialization, thus promoting sustainable development. Moreover, it enhances energy security by diversifying the energy mix, increasing resilience, and meeting the country's growing energy needs. Additionally, the adoption of LPG promotes environmental sustainability by curbing deforestation and carbon emissions, aligning with global climate goals. Lastly, the project receives policy support from the government, creating a conducive regulatory environment for clean energy initiatives. In summary, Windek Energy's initiative promises a future for Nigeria that is not only healthier but also more prosperous and sustainable.
