Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices across various cities and states in Nigeria for December 2024 exhibit a noticeable variance, influenced by factors such as logistics, market conditions, and regional economic factors. The average retail price for 12.5kg of LPG nationwide is approximately ₦17,527, with prices ranging from a low of ₦15,625 in Ijebu Ode to a high of ₦18,750 in cities like Kaduna, Abia, and Onitsha. Detailed Price Analysis

1. Regions with Standard Pricing (₦17,500 per 12.5kg, ₦1,400/kg)

Several cities and states have consistent pricing of ₦17,500 for 12.5kg cylinders, with a cost of ₦1,400 per kilogram. These regions include:

Ajangbadi, Ojo

Ijebu East, Ijebu Ife, and Ijebu Igbo

Lekki and VI (Lagos State)

Ijede, Ikorodu

Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Kebbi

Keffi, Lafia, Taraba State

Abeokuta Road/Ibadan

Shagamu, Ogun

Aba and Warri (Delta)

 

2. Regions with Premium Pricing (₦18,750 per 12.5kg, ₦1,500/kg)

Higher prices were recorded in:

3. Regions with Discounted Pricing

Ijebu Ode: The lowest price nationwide at ₦15,625 for 12.5kg (₦1,250/kg).

Kano: ₦16,250 for 12.5kg (₦1,300/kg), slightly below the national average.

Port Harcourt: ₦16,875 for 12.5kg (₦1,350/kg).

 

4. Outliers

FCT, Abuja: Priced at ₦18,125 (₦1,450/kg), reflecting its metropolitan status and higher demand.

Uniform Pricing in Several Regions: A significant number of cities have uniform pricing, pointing to effective distribution channels and stable market forces.

With an average price of ₦17,527 per 12.5kg, affordability remains a concern in premium-priced regions. Policies aimed at reducing transportation costs and ensuring equitable distribution could help stabilize prices nationwide, fostering greater LPG adoption and enhancing access to clean energy.
