The European Climate Law writes into law the goal set out in the European Green Deal for Europe's economy and society to become climate-neutral by 2050. The law also sets the intermediate target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.
This ambition is driving European and national Governments to strongly support the deployment of hybrid and electric vehicles. This support crystallizes in two main actions:
- Subsidies for electric vehicles acquisition, and
- Increasing restrictions on accessing cities center for old vehicles,
Despite of the lack of official incentives for LPG cars, Autogas remains as prominent alternative fuel in European Union thanks to its benefits for end-customer, such as economic savings compared to gasoline and diesel vehicles and lower CO2 and particles emissions, as we can check on the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) annual report “Vehicles on European Roads” with figures for 2022.
2.6% of passenger cars and 0.8% of light commercial vehicles (vans) in European Union are fueled by Autogas. In countries that supported Autogas in the past like Italy and Poland, 7.2 and 13.1% of passenger cars run with Autogas.
On top of that, many professional customers (p.e. taxi drivers) buy a hybrid car (electric plus gasoline) in order to achieve all legal advantages of hybrid labelling and then transform it into Autogas and they mainly run with Autogas because it is a cheaper and reliable fuel.
