Federal Government Launches Portal For ‘Convert To CNG, Pay Later’ Program

In a major move to promote clean energy adoption and reduce reliance on petrol, the Nigerian federal government has launched a new portal that allows vehicle owners to convert their petrol-powered vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) and pay for the conversion in instalments.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) announced this new initiative on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the platform aims to make the switch to CNG more affordable and accessible for Nigerians.

“Switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more accessible than ever,” NOA said. “With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable.”

Pay Later for CNG Conversion

The new portal offers flexible payment plans, allowing users to convert their vehicles now and pay later through monthly instalments at competitive rates. This means that vehicle owners no longer have to bear the full cost of conversion upfront, making it easier for more Nigerians to embrace this cleaner and more cost-effective fuel alternative.

The online application process is simple and fast, with a quick approval system designed to ensure a seamless experience for all users. Interested individuals can visit the website gocng.ng to apply and begin their conversion process.

Benefits of CNG Adoption

The NOA highlighted several benefits of using CNG over petrol, including:

Cost Savings: CNG is significantly cheaper than petrol, offering users long-term financial relief.

Environmental Impact: CNG produces fewer emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment and reducing the nation’s carbon footprint.

Enhanced Engine Life: Vehicles running on CNG tend to have longer engine life due to the cleaner combustion process.

Safety and Reliability: CNG is a proven technology, widely recognized for its safety and dependable performance.

Supporting Economic Well-being

This initiative forms part of the broader efforts by the federal government to support economic growth and reduce the nation’s dependence on costly petrol. On October 7, the government also launched a similar portal for youths to access CNG-powered tricycles, as part of a nationwide push to encourage cleaner energy use in transportation.

Michael Oluwagbemi, Project Director and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative (P-CNGi), emphasized the positive impact this initiative will have on Nigerians’ economic well-being. "This is a step toward reducing dependence on petrol and enhancing the financial stability of Nigerians," he said.

With the launch of this new CNG conversion portal, Nigeria is moving closer to achieving its energy diversification goals and providing citizens with a more sustainable and affordable energy alternative.
