NNPCL Launches Maiden LPG Micro Filling Plant In Nasarawa State

In a significant step towards enhancing access to clean cooking energy in rural areas, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has inaugurated its first LPG Micro Filling Plant in Nasarawa State. This initiative aims to make cooking gas readily available and affordable in remote communities, thereby promoting sustainable energy practices and reducing reliance on traditional fuels.

Aisha Birma, the External Relations representative of NNPCL, revealed during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, that the project will commence in twelve selected states across the country, with Nasarawa State leading the way as the launchpad for this transformative endeavor.

"We have 12 states as the pilot states, but we are starting with Nasarawa State because of the enormous resources you have here and the potentials," Birma explained. Jibunoh Sabastine, Manager of LPG Sales at NNPC Retail Limited, further elaborated on the purpose behind introducing Micro Filling Plants. These compact and containerized systems are designed to store and dispense LPG in cylinders, catering specifically to underserved communities where awareness and accessibility to clean cooking fuels are lacking.

"The micro filling plant is specially built compact, compatible containerized system capable of storing LPG in cylinders and dispense same at designated places," Sabastine highlighted. "We intend to take it to areas where there is a lack of orientation on the use of gas for cooking purposes." Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State expressed gratitude to NNPC for selecting his state as both a pilot location and the launch site for the project. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the initiative and leveraging the partnership with NNPC to drive development and progress in the state.

In addition to promoting clean cooking energy, Governor Sule also seized the opportunity to discuss ongoing oil exploration activities within the state, underscoring the potential for further collaboration between the government and NNPC in the energy sector.

The launch of the LPG Micro Filling Plant in Nasarawa State marks a significant milestone in Nigeria's efforts to expand access to clean and affordable energy solutions, particularly in rural and underserved areas. With NNPC's proactive approach and strategic partnerships, the nation is poised to make substantial strides towards achieving its energy transition goals and fostering sustainable development for all.
