LPG Prices Decline Sharply
Both propane and butane recorded significant week-on-week declines, each retreating by over 7% by Friday. This correction closely followed easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, notably the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. Propane averaged $386.6/MT for the week, while butane settled at $404.4/MT—both down from the previous week’s averages of $417.0/MT and $435.3/MT, respectively.
Crude Oil Market Volatile Amid Ceasefire
Crude oil prices experienced notable volatility during the week, initially trending toward $80 before reversing course after the de-escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil flows, remained unaffected, calming market fears. WTI closed the week at $65.88 (down from $75.26), while Brent settled at $68.17 (down from $76.87).
Nigerian LPG Market: Depot Prices Stabilizing
LPG depot prices showed signs of stabilization. In the South-West, prices hovered around ₦18.5 million per 20MT, while South-South depots averaged approximately ₦18.3 million. Concerns over supply disruptions from the Dangote refinery appear to have eased, as the market continues to reflect adequate product availability.
Retail Market: Prices Hold Steady
Retail LPG prices remained relatively stable nationwide, with prices in Lekki dropping to approximately ₦13,750 for a 12.5kg cylinder, down from ₦15,000 in the previous week.
