LPG Price Trends
Last week marked a divergence in the trajectories of Mont Belvieu LPG components.
Butane extended its bullish momentum, climbing over 3%, reflecting continued petrochemical demand and tighter inventories.
Propane, on the other hand, slipped more than 1% week-on-week, primarily due to a sharp mid-week drop likely triggered by weaker U.S. export signals and lower heating-related demand as temperatures warm.
This price decoupling suggests localized dynamics are now influencing the market more than broader supply fundamentals. Butane’s strength may also reflect a growing summer gasoline blending demand in key markets.
Crude oil prices continue to deep.
WTI closed at $58.34 lower than the previous week's price of $62.85 while Brent closed at $61.30 lower than $66.57.Oil in the previous week. Several factors causing the continued downward trend include the OPEC+ 's decision ( led by Saudi Arabia) to continue normal oil production despite the downward trend, seemingly weakening global demand. And this is despite the sanctions from the US on Iran , over the Iranian Nuclear program.
Nigeria LPG depot prices continue on an upward trajectory.
In Nigeria, LPG depot prices in Lagos maintained the upward trend, with some depot in Lagos recording 19.5 million per 20MT. Also, depots in the South-South region are similarly trending upward, with Kwale and Panocean , Ovade selling around 18 million. Prices are expected to continue the upward trend, which is mainly currently being driven by some scarcity in the market , due to the gap from Dangote refinery supplies.
LPG Retail Prices have started responding.
Retail prices for LPG is now at N15,000.00 per 12.5kg in Lekki , increasing significantly from 14,000.00, in response to the upward trend in LPG depot prices at the depot.
