Key Factors Affecting LPG Prices
1. Supply Stability Keeping Prices in Check: There were no major supply disruptions, and steady refinery output ensured adequate availability.
2. Butane Demand Continues to Decline: Butane prices continued their downward trajectory, influenced by **lower heating demand in key markets - Warmer weather in Europe and Asia kept demand lower than expected.
3. Propane Holding Steady: Propane prices saw a slight increase, supported by steady petrochemical demand in Asia. U.S. propane inventories showed modest withdrawals, helping maintain prices.
Overall, LPG prices are expected to remain stable, with butane prices facing continued downward pressure.
Crude Oil Market Analysis
Oil prices increased slightly for the week, with WTI closing at $72.00 and Brent at $75.77, up from the prior week's $71.33 and $74.98, respectively.
Oil recovered softly after three consecutive weeks of losses. Despite the significant geopolitical development of a potential Russia-Ukraine negotiated settlement, crude prices have not seen a major decline, unlike European natural gas prices, which reacted sharply. However, unexpected supply disruptions or geopolitical developments could shift market dynamics in the coming weeks.
Nigeria LPG depot prices continue to find new lower levels.
LPG depots in Apapa sold lower compared to last week, with many selling in the region of 18.3 Million per 20MT as Dangote prices continue to find new lows as expected, selling for between 16.6 to 17 million naira per 20MT. Kwale Hydrocarbon in Kwale, sold for 18.5 Million by the end of the week. The Naira gained ground against the USD, finishing at about 1560/USD at the end of the week, but it doesn't make import viable, relative to the prevailing local LPG prices.
LPG Retail Prices steady.
Retail LPG prices remained as low as N15,000/12.5kg in Lekki and other parts nationwide, as LPG depot prices continue to crash.
