The average retail price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) increased by 0.36% monthly from N4,549.14 recorded in November 2022 to N4,565.56 in December 2022. On a year-on-year basis, this rose by 27.00% from N3,594.81 in December 2021. LPG retail price information gathered from the LPG in Nigeria community on Facebook and Twitter suggests that retail prices may have decreased by 17.85% from December 2022 to January 2023. As of December 2022, the average price for LPG per kg was approximately 913 Naira according to NBS and in January 2023, our LPG in Nigeria community suggested that the retail price be around 750 Naira per kg.

The highest retail price for LPG came from Onitisha, where prices varied from 850 to 900 Naira per kg. Thus, prices were between 4,250 Naira to 4,500 Naira (5kg) and 10,625 Naira to 11,250 Naira (12.5kg). Followed by 820 Naira per kg in Ilorin, Kwara state and some parts of Abeokuta and Ogun – prices ranged from 4,100 Naira (5kg) and 10,250 Naira (12.5kg). Prices ranged from 760 and 770 Naira in areas such as Port Harcourt, Owerri, Sapele and Lagos State. Thus, prices ranged from 3,800 Naira to 3,850 Naira (5kg) and 9,500 Naira to 9,625 Naira (12.5kg). However, 750 Naira was the average retail price for LPG in places like Lagos, Jos, Jigawa, Ijebu, Ibadan and Akure which is how we arrived at our average percentage decrease in January.
