LPG Prices continue the bullish trend

Last week, prices continued to trend bullish for both Propane and Butane, as calm returned to the geopolitical arena. Propane prices closed at an average weekly price of $453.7/MT, a 3.9% increase in price against the previous week, Butane prices closed at $407.7/MT, a 3.2% increase against the previous week's average price.

The slower pace of increase compared to earlier weeks suggests that the sharper rally witnessed previously was primarily a market correction, rebounding from volatility caused by global tariff uncertainties. With import tariff fears now receding, market fundamentals are taking center stage.

LPG Price Trends

Current LPG price trends suggest a firm market structure, supported by stable demand, particularly in the petrochemical sector and for heating in late spring. Barring significant shifts in global energy dynamics or unexpected weather changes, prices are expected to remain resilient until warmer temperatures reduce seasonal demand.

Crude oil prices are sluggish amid the unsettled US-China rift.

WTI closed at $62.85 while Brent closed at $66.57.Oil prices softened slightly week-on-week, reflecting mixed market sentiment amid ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China. The uncertainty surrounding diplomatic and economic relations between the world's two largest economies weighed on market confidence, keeping oil prices rangebound despite geopolitical calm elsewhere.

Nigeria LPG depot prices continue on an upward trajectory.

In Nigeria, LPG depot prices in Lagos rose significantly, averaging around ₦19 million per 20MT across most facilities throughout the week. Depots in the South-South region are similarly trending upward, gradually returning to pre-Dangote Refinery pricing levels. The sustained rise in international prices, combined with the local US-Naira foreign Exchange situation, is expected to keep domestic prices elevated in the near term.

LPG Retail Prices are hardly unmoved.

As expected, LPG retail prices seem to lag in response to prices at the upper part of the Value chain. Prices hardly moved, showing prices around N14,000.00 per 12.5kg in Lekki.
