LPG Prices Hit Lowest Levels in Nearly Two Years

LPG prices extended their bearish run during the week, dropping to their lowest levels in almost two years. The decline was driven by expectations of market oversupply following easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The resulting stability is expected to increase oil output, leading to higher Naphtha availability — a close substitute for LPG in petrochemical applications.

Propane: averaged $315.8/MT, down 6.5% from last week’s $337.6/MT.

Butane: averaged $360.3/MT, down 5.4% from last week’s $380.7/MT.

Crude Oil – Brent Slips Below $61 Amid Geopolitical Calm

Crude oil prices tumbled to a five-year low as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East eased following the Hamas–Israeli ceasefire. In addition, a surprise buildup in U.S. oil inventories fueled oversupply concerns, further depressing prices.

WTI: $57.37 (down from $59.41)

Brent: $60.99 (down from $63.12)

The Russia–Ukraine conflict and ongoing sanctions remain key factors to watch as they continue to shape global supply dynamics.

Nigeria LPG Market – Offshore Supply Ramps Up to Ease Scarcity

In Nigeria, depot prices held relatively steady around ₦18.5 million per 20MT in Apapa as more offshore LPG supplies entered the market to ease scarcity. Despite this, some depots still went dry intermittently, and loading at the Dangote Refinery remained slow as truck queues persisted as marketers rushed to secure product amid favorable wholesale prices.

Retail LPG – Prices Ease Across Major Cities

Retail consumers began to see some relief during the week as prices adjusted downward in several locations:

Lekki: ₦1,300/kg

Ikorodu: ₦1,300–₦1,500/kg

Port Harcourt: around ₦1,500/kg

While the situation remains uneven across regions, improved supply inflows are expected to stabilize prices further in the coming days.
