The successful launch of Beyond the Barrel: LPG Trading Strategies for Nigeria by MR Godwin Okoduwa marked an important moment for Nigeria’s LPG industry, bringing together regulators, industry leaders, investors, operators, and energy advocates under one roof at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. What stood out most was not just the unveiling of a book, but the sense that the industry is entering a more knowledge-driven and strategy-led phase.
The event drew a strong cross section of stakeholders across the LPG value chain. From marketers and distributors to policy representatives and infrastructure leaders, the room reflected the growing seriousness around gas as a transition fuel and a long term pillar in Nigeria’s energy future. The conversations were practical, forward looking, and deeply aligned with the core message of the book: better knowledge leads to better decisions and a stronger market.
A major highlight of the launch was the support of our Platinum Sponsor, AP (Ardova Plc), whose role in Nigeria’s downstream gas ecosystem continues to expand in both scale and impact. Ardova Plc currently operates the largest LPG storage facility in West Africa, with the capacity to satisfy up to 60 percent of Nigeria’s LPG demand. Their bulk LPG business powers industrial and commercial operations across all states of the federation, delivering dependable bulk gas solutions designed to keep businesses running without interruption. Through Ardogas, their retail gas brand, they continue to make clean cooking energy more accessible to households. With cylinder sizes in 6kg, 12.5kg, and 50kg, refill options at select AP and Enyo stations, and free gas to door delivery in participating neighbourhoods, they are helping to build trust and convenience into everyday gas use. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and belief in the vision behind this book.
The intellectual depth of the launch was enriched by the first book review delivered by Joy Shayein, National Coordinator of Women in LPG, Nigeria. She described the book as a practical guide that helps readers understand the “little minefields” that operators encounter in the Nigerian LPG space. She emphasized that the text breaks down the real operational and trading complexities of the market and makes them understandable for both newcomers and experienced players. Her remarks resonated strongly with attendees, especially younger professionals and women building careers in the sector.
We also received goodwill remarks from the Managing Director of Rainoil Gas Ltd, who congratulated the author and acknowledged the importance of structured knowledge in strengthening market practice and professionalism across the industry.
Another powerful contribution came from the Special Guest Speaker from Energy Culture, who spoke in person and noted how engaging it was to see detailed treatment of LPG pricing benchmarks such as Mont Belvieu and their relevance to Nigerian landed cost realities. He connected the book’s market insights to Nigeria’s broader energy ambition and stressed that growth in LPG must be supported by a strong safety culture, something he noted the book addresses clearly and responsibly.
Representation from the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources was also present, with the Honourable Commissioner represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary. The message delivered reinforced the position that cleaner fuels such as LPG are no longer optional within the state’s energy direction. The remarks highlighted ongoing efforts to support gas adoption and market development, and noted that resources like this book help equip Nigerian businesses with the strategies needed to compete effectively and avoid being left behind. Across the launch programme, one theme kept repeating itself in different words: the Nigerian LPG industry is maturing, and maturity requires shared knowledge, transparent pricing understanding, safety awareness, and smarter investment thinking. That is exactly the gap this book was written to fill.
Beyond the Barrel is now available for purchase in both formats. The soft copy is available at ₦50,000, while the hard copy edition is available at ₦50,000. Early readers at the event described it as practical, data-grounded, and immediately useful for decision making across trading, investment, and operations. Most of all, we are thankful to every partner, sponsor, reviewer, speaker, and attendee who made the launch a success. The strong turnout and thoughtful engagement confirmed that the industry is ready for deeper, more practical conversations about LPG trading, infrastructure, pricing, safety, and growth in Nigeria. This is only the beginning of the journey beyond the barrel.
