Driving Nigeria’s Clean Energy Future: CNG And LPG At The Forefront

Nigeria’s energy transition is gathering momentum, and recent developments in Abuja underscore the growing importance of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in shaping a cleaner, more affordable energy future. At LPG in Nigeria, we are always excited to report on the progress of CNG adoption because it represents not just a technological shift, but a national opportunity to reduce costs, improve environmental safety, and expand access to sustainable energy solutions. The official unveiling of Alfa Designs Nigeria Ltd.’s CNG products, in collaboration with Mijo AutoGas, a global leader in CNG and LPG conversion technology marked a significant milestone. The event, hosted with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), showcased Mijo AutoGas’ advanced CNG conversion kits, specialised cylinders from EKC International, and infrastructure solutions such as mother and daughter stations by CIMC ENRIC. Cutting-edge tools like Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras from Opgal Optronics were also presented, reinforcing the importance of safety and innovation in Nigeria’s energy ecosystem.

Mijo AutoGas, headquartered in India and operating across 17 countries, has built a strong footprint in Nigeria over the past five years. With more than 400 certifications from regulatory bodies including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the company has established itself as a trusted partner in energy conversion technology. Beyond supplying products, Mijo emphasizes an ecosystem approach, providing technical support, training, and long-term partnerships. Through initiatives like “We Fix It 45,” over 300 Nigerian technicians have been trained free of charge, contributing to more than 11,000 CNG vehicle conversions in just three years.

The Presidential Initiative on CNG (PiCNG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs) has been rightly commended as a catalyst for Nigeria’s transition from petrol to cleaner alternatives. By lowering costs and reducing emissions, CNG adoption is becoming a cornerstone of sustainable mobility. Partnerships like that between Mijo AutoGas and Alfa Designs blend international engineering excellence with Nigerian innovation, ensuring that CNG adoption is not only viable but also affordable and scalable.

Why CNG Matters

From our perspective at LPG in Nigeria, CNG is critical for several reasons:

Cost Efficiency: CNG is significantly cheaper than petrol or diesel, making it attractive for transport operators and everyday consumers.

Environmental Benefits: It reduces harmful emissions, contributing to cleaner air and a safer environment.

Energy Security: By leveraging Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves, CNG reduces reliance on imported fuels and strengthens local energy independence.

Job Creation: The expansion of CNG infrastructure creates thousands of skilled jobs, from technicians to engineers, fueling economic growth.

Advancing CNG in Nigeria: Our Perspective

To accelerate CNG adoption, several steps are essential:

Infrastructure Expansion: More conversion centres, fueling stations, and mother-daughter stations must be developed to ensure accessibility nationwide.

Policy Support: Stable regulations and incentives will encourage investment and reassure stakeholders.

Public Awareness: Education campaigns are needed to highlight the benefits of CNG and dispel misconceptions.

Capacity Building: Training programs for technicians and engineers should be scaled up to meet growing demand.

Partnerships: Collaboration between the government, private companies, and international partners will ensure sustainable growth.

At LPG in Nigeria, we believe that CNG is not just an alternative fuel; it is a transformative solution for Nigeria’s energy future. By combining innovation, resilience, and collaboration, Nigeria can unlock the full potential of its gas resources, delivering cleaner transport, stronger energy security, and meaningful economic opportunities. The Abuja event reaffirmed the commitment of industry leaders like Mijo AutoGas and Alfa Designs to Nigeria’s clean energy transition. For us at LPG in Nigeria, reporting on these milestones is more than just news, it is a reflection of our shared vision for a future where CNG and LPG drive sustainable growth, empower communities, and redefine Nigeria’s energy landscape.
