LPG Prices Turn Bullish for the First Time in Four Weeks
LPG prices rebounded for the first time in four weeks, tracking the uptrend in global oil prices following U.S. sanctions on Russian oil. The sanctions imposed by President Trump triggered renewed bullish sentiment in the market after a sustained period of price declines.
Propane: averaged $322.7/MT, up 2.2% from last week’s $315.8/MT.
Butane: averaged $376.4/MT, up 4.4% from last week’s $360.3/MT.
Crude Oil – Brent Jumps by $5 in a Single Day on Geopolitical Tensions
Crude oil prices rebounded last week in response to the US's sanctions on the two largest oil producers in Russia - Lukoil and Rosneft Oil. The sanctions potentially put 3.1 million barrels per day of oil exports at risk, which tightens oil supplies in the market.
WTI: $62.17 (up from $57.37)
Brent: $66.47 (down from $60.99)
Outlook: A sub-$60 per barrel market remains possible in the medium term, as a potential return to bearish sentiment looms amid close monitoring of the Russia–Ukraine situation.
Nigeria LPG Market – Prices Stable Amid Slow Supply Replenishment
In Nigeria, depot prices remained relatively stable around ₦18.5 million per 20MT in Apapa, as only a few depots had stock. The lingering scarcity has led to higher transportation rates, with marketers competing for limited trucking capacity. Loading at the Dangote Refinery has yet to return to pre-maintenance levels, resulting in persistent queues. However, reports suggest that new NLNG/NNPC cargoes are expected in Port Harcourt and Apapa, which could ease pressure at the retail end in the coming week.
Retail Cooking Gas Prices – Steady but Vulnerable to Supply Delays
Retail cooking gas prices remained largely unchanged as plants continued to sell at the previous week’s levels. However, this stability may be short-lived if new LPG cargoes fail to arrive soon.
Lekki: ₦1,300/kg
Ikorodu: ₦1,300–₦1,500/kg
Port Harcourt: around ₦1,500/kg
