Weekly Mont Belvieu Propane–Butane Market Update – January 16th, 2026

Weekly Average LPG Prices:

12/01/2026: Propane $310.6 | Butane $324.6

13/01/2026: Propane $313.9 | Butane $325.9

14/01/2026: Propane $314.4 | Butane $330.0

15/01/2026: Propane $303.3 | Butane $324.3

16/01/2026: Propane $309.3 | Butane $333.8

LPG Prices – Bearish Trend Sustained

The bearish momentum in LPG prices persisted for the fifth consecutive week, but we must observe the insignificant percentage drop in the average weekly prices of both Propane and Butane. While there was a drop in the average weekly price of Propane by 0.4%, Butane recorded  0.1% drop in prices. We may see a rebound in the current week ; this would be in alignment with the rebound in crude oil prices.

Propane: averaged $310.1/MT, down from $311.3/MT

Butane: averaged $327.7/MT, down from $327.9/MT

Watch out for a bullish-rebound as the percentage drop in prices thins.

Crude Oil – Price Rebound sustained on Geopolitical Developments

(WTI: $59.76 | Brent: $64.37) 59.76, 64.37

Crude oil prices extended the bullish run last week. The protests in Iran and the possibility of US military intervention kept the market guessing and tilting bullish as prices hit 56 USD on the WTI index before closing lower. The seeming calm in the Iranian protest could send prices crashing again.

Weekly Close:

WTI:$59.76 (up from $59.11)

Brent:$64.37 (up from $63.22)

Outlook:

Despite the recent rebound, the broader trend remains bearish. Iranian unrest and Venezuelan developments are unlikely to materially tighten supply. Instead, the possibility of increased Venezuelan output could worsen global oversupply, pushing prices toward new lows in the near term.

Nigeria LPG Market – Domestic Prices fall to sub 17 Million levels

Prices hit new lows in Apapa and Nationwide, as LPG sold for under 17 million nationwide. Market information suggests that some marketers sold for as low as 16.5 million naira per 20MT. Market trend is likely to continue as international prices fall with no real threat of a strong local supplier in Dangote Refinery , currently.

Retail Cooking Gas – Retail prices gradually dropping

Retail LPG prices are gradually dropping nationwide, ranging between 1,050/kg and 1,200/kg nationwide. Further declines are likely in the coming weeks if depot prices continue their downward adjustment.
