LPG Prices Decline in Line with Global Oil Trends
LPG prices fell sharply during the week, shedding over 4% in value for both Propane and Butane compared to the previous week’s averages.
Propane: averaged $337.6/MT, down 4.5% from last week’s $353.4/MT.
Butane: averaged $380.7/MT, down 4.3% from last week’s $397.7/MT.
The downward movement reflected geopolitical developments in the Middle East. With peace talks and ceasefire agreements progressing, the market interpreted reduced geopolitical risk as bearish for oil and gas prices.
Crude Oil – Geopolitical Calm Pushes Prices Lower
Crude oil futures continued their downward slide as news of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israeli leaders fueled expectations of stable Middle East supply. A more peaceful region typically implies steady oil and gas output — hence, weaker prices.
In addition, the ongoing U.S.–China trade tensions added further uncertainty to global demand prospects, contributing to bearish sentiment.
WTI: $59.41 (down from $60.98)
Brent: $63.12 (down from $64.65)
Outlook: The overall sentiment remains bearish, with global supply expected to remain sufficient in the near term.
Nigeria LPG Market – Persistent Scarcity as Supply Tightens
Depot prices rose further to highs of ₦18.5 million per 20MT in Apapa during the week as supply constraints persisted. Reports suggest loading operations at Dangote Refinery slowed due to operational challenges, limiting product availability. Queues remained at depots as marketers scrambled for loading slots.
Despite limited inflows from Dangote, more NLNG cargoes are expected in the coming week, which could ease some of the current supply tightness.
Retail LPG – Prices Show Mixed Movement Nationwide
Retail cooking gas prices remained elevated across most regions. While some outlets in Lagos maintained prices around ₦1,200/kg, many correspondents reported ₦2,000/kg or higher. A few LPG bottling plants temporarily ran out of stock during the week, reflecting the strain at the depot level.
